Joe Torre, Safe At Home Foundation Executive Director Yolanda Jimenez, and staff joined New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo as he signed legislation that prevents domestic violence perpetrators from purchasing and owning guns, and requires that perpetrators surrender all firearms.

The ceremony also included elected officials across all levels of government, including Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and countless city, state and national legislators. Numerous domestic violence advocate and survivor organizations were also present.

In a press release issued by Governor Cuomo’s office, our Chairman Joe Torre stated: “Domestic violence victims are five times more likely to be killed if their significant other owns a gun. Today, New York State is taking a strong stance by keeping guns away from abusers – thereby saving countless lives.”
