Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Did you know that one in three young people will experience dating violence? Did you know over HALF of people who have been abused, stalked, or harassed by a partner first experienced abuse between the ages of 11-14?

Safe At Home spent February commemorating Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month by calling attention to how widespread this crisis is. Our counselors held special sessions on healthy relationships and recognizing signs of abuse and control, and shared resources on how to get support.

Our team of alumni interns created a series of workshops about healthy relationships and Teen Dating Violence. The workshop included a role play, where an unhealthy relationship was showcased by our staff. Students then came up and joined the role play, changing what the perpetrator and bystander did so that the victim could be safe and supported.

Our alumni also made a short quiz to give out on Valentine’s Day to all students – with a sweet treat prize – to make sure they could identify the signs of an unhealthy relationship and knew they could come to Margaret’s Place to get help.
